I imagined John Blanke as a graphic crowbar with which to continue to prise open, ever so slightly, the cultural door that separates us from a fuller understanding of Black British history. 

Knowing where he was, speaks to where we are and offers us, both the vital light of context and, in turbulent times, much needed additional anchorage.
